Graduate Assistant Roles (Athletic Trainers and S&C)

George Mason University have several Graduate Assistant Roles available in Athletic Training and Strength & Conditioning.

The Master’s Program (MS) in Exercise, Fitness, and Health Promotion (EFHP) is seeking highly qualified individuals that want to attain their master’s degree at Virginia’s largest public research university.  Faculty research interests and potential funding may be available in the following areas:

  1. Sports Medicine Assessment, Research & Testing (SMART) Laboratory
  2. Public Safety (Fire & Rescue) settings (ATC and Strength & Conditioning certification required)
  3. Middle and High Schools (ATC required)
  4. Orthopedic clinical sites (ATC required)
  5. Research and Implementation of Injury Prevention Programs (e.g., falls prevention, lower extremity neuromuscular training)
  6. Gait/running research and clinical outreach services via the Sports Medicine Assessment, Research & Testing (SMART) Laboratory
  7. Epidemiology, wearable sensors, and community outreach in youth leagues (e.g., football, lacrosse)
  8. Biomechanics and bio-imaging research in lower extremity injury prevention, and injury etiology
  9. Strength & Conditioning and Exercise Physiology
  10. Graduate Teaching Assistantships / Lecturers (Adjunct)

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Athletic Training, or related field
  2. For some positions, nationally recognized certification for Strength & Conditioning (e.g., CSCS) required or ability to attain the certification within 6 months of hiring
  3. For Athletic Training positions, proof of current BOC certification is required by the start date as well as Virginia Athletic Training Licensure
  4. Other certifications (e.g., ACSM EP-C, CEP) are also encouraged
  5. Ability to work week nights and weekends and travel as needed

Note about funded positions:

  • Contingent upon funding
  • 9-months to yearly appointments with possibility of renewal
  • Renewal is dependent on performance evaluation and funding availability
  • Application to the MS in Exercise, Fitness and Health Promotion is required
  • Funding offers will only occur after admission to the program
  • Assistantship placements will be determined based on qualifications, experience, and interests
