Job Description

The aim of the England and Wales Cricket Board’s Science, Medicine and Innovation team is to provide best support to England’s Men’s, Women’s and Pathway players. Specifically contributing to the development and preparation of great England players.

The team also aims to lead and guide the standards of practice across the professional Men’s and elite Women’s games, developing and sharing knowledge.

To help achieve these aims, the ECB is seeking applications from extensively experienced Strength & Conditioning (S&C) coaches with an interest in cricket. You will have a proven track record of performance enhancing physical preparation with international level athletes and/or elite level professional teams. Reporting directly to the Head of Science, Medicine and Innovation, the successful applicant will join the Science & Medicine Leadership Team.

The specific purpose of the role is to lead the delivery of S&C provision within ECB and across the Professional Men’s and Elite Women’s Game, primarily to ensure performance impact, and to provide quality assurance of S&C as a specialist support discipline within elite Cricket. Secondly, the specific purpose is to lead and deliver high quality physical preparation coaching and support to England Pathway Programmes and individual England Senior Players.

You will directly manage two S&C coaches and a performance nutritionist. The position also offers the opportunity to contribute to research projects and to lead a CPD programme for S&C coaches across the Professional game. You will be based at the National Cricket Performance Centre at Loughborough University. However, the role will require some travel around England & Wales and overseas to support training camps and tours.

You will need first class S&C coaching skills, and extensive experience working within a multidisciplinary team, at international or elite professional level. The successful applicant will also have a strong track record of leading and developing staff within the field of S&C, the ability to engage peers and colleagues to foster productive working relationships, and have excellent communication skills. Candidates must have a graduate qualification in Sports Science / S&C and up to date UKSCA accreditation (or international equivalent).

Skills & Experience
Extensive (>10 years) experience in enhancing International level Athlete or high level professional player performance through physical preparation Sports science / S&C degree; preferably post-graduate level

  • Sports science / S&C degree; preferably post-graduate level
  • Current UKSCA accreditation
  • Significant experience of Elite Cricket performance and practice methods
  • Demonstrable high-quality S&C coaching skills
  • Demonstrable effective S&C programming knowledge
  • Practical knowledge of injury rehabilitation and prevention training
  • Practical knowledge of nutrition strategies & recovery practices to support performance and health
  • Practical knowledge of monitoring and analysis systems
  • Quality leadership skills, and ability to influence individuals and bring teams together
  • Good (excellent) teaching and presenting skills
  • Ability to build stakeholder relationships and manage external partnerships

This role is seen as a leader of S&C in cricket and a senior member within the Loughborough International Pathways team.
