Owen is the Founder of Science for Sport and has a Master’s degree in Strength & Conditioning and a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Conditioning & Rehabilitation from Cardiff Metropolitan University. Before founding Science for Sport, he was the Head of Academy Sports Science at Cardiff City Football Club, and an interim Sports Scientist for the Welsh Football Association.

He’s published research on the ‘Practical Applications of Water Immersion Recovery Modalities for Team Sports’ in the Strength & Conditioning Journal by the NSCA (National Strength & Conditioning Association). Eric is a Strength and Conditioning Coach from Ireland. Eric holds a MSc in Sports Strength and Conditioning and an undergraduate degree in Sport and Exercise. Eric is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with the NSCA. Dr. James Morehen is the Lead Performance Nutritionist for England Rugby and previously also worked as the Performance Nutritionist for Bristol Bears Rugby Union. Tom is an assistant professor in applied sports sciences and has worked with elite sports for over 10 years. Previous roles include working as a sports scientist at Liverpool F.C., where he completed his Ph.D., and working across a number of other sports. He is passionate about physiology, coach communication, and high-performance strategy and systems.

Tom graduated with a BSc in 2011 before undertaking an MSc at Loughborough University. He has published 25 academic papers on strength and conditioning, nutrition, and youth development in Sports Medicine, the Journal of Strength & Conditioning Research, and others. Tom also now supervises a number of his own Ph.D. students around the world embedded within sporting organisations.

Cody has been a strength and conditioning coach within NCAA Division I sports since 2008. He currently works in Olympic sports at the University of Iowa. He holds a Masters degree in Exercise Science from the University of Kansas (‘10). A former collegiate discus and hammer thrower (University of Kansas ‘07), Cody has also served as an adjunct professor within the Health & Human Physiology department at Iowa, as well a written over 200 research reviews for the Performance Digest since joining the Science for Sport team in 2019.

Cody is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, a Strength & Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association, and a USAW Certified Sport Performance Coach from USA Weightlifting.

The entire psychophysiological process of coaching and athletic development is what drives Cody to learn and engage others daily to best serve and develop the athletes he works with. In his role, he has numerous resources at his disposal (e.g. GPS, force plates, tensiomyography, and other testing/monitoring tools). His experience and application of these tools, implementing consistent and sustainable monitoring strategies, make him an excellent resource for all things technology and monitoring. Aiming to maximize the quest for optimal performance through a holistic and scientific approach.

Jon Bell MRes, BSc*, PGCE, PCert, FHEA, MSST is a Therapeutic and Rehabilitation sciences lecturer at Leeds Beckett University’s School of Health. He is also head of Sports medicine and performance for the GB wrestling team and has previously worked at Teesside and Moulton University. He has worked with fighters in the UFC, Bellator, Cage Warrior and ADCC Submission Fighting World Championship. Outside of combat sports, Jon has worked with Olympic and Commonwealth gold medal athletes and in top-flight football and rugby in the UK and Europe. Jon was previously in the Military, where he acted as a team medic in conflict zones such as Afghanistan. This has led to a decade of working with veteran amputees, mainly through the charity British Limbless Ex-Servicemen’s Association (BLESMA).

Jon’s current research and interests focus on British wrestling and combat sports. This aligns with his external work as Head of Sports Medicine and Performance for the British Wrestling Association and the medical work he provides for The Bare-Knuckle Boxing Fighting Championship (BKFC), The British Fighting Championship and other MMA and boxing promotions.
As well as his rehabilitation work for BLESMA, Jon runs Northern Grappling Company, a project set up to raise money for a Disabled Youth charity in York (Choose2youth) by running grappling events across the region of Yorkshire.

Julian has been involved in high-performance strength and conditioning for the past decade for elite, national and amateur level athletes. This journey has given him extensive skills and experience in the field of sports performance conditioning and research development. Julian has also completed his master’s degree in strength and conditioning research, investigating the effects of post-activation potentiation (PAP) on maximal sprint performance of Singapore’s national track and field athletes. His post-graduate studies had enabled him to gain knowledge in the area of strength/power performance monitoring (e.g. force plate and linear transducer system integrations.) This has translated into scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals investigating the efficacy of PAP protocols in enhancing athletic performance.
